Are Your eBay Links Sending Your Visitors to a “Page Not Found” Error?
What to do if clicking your ebay ads takes you to a “page not found” error…
One of my forum members contacted me earlier today and was having an issue with the BayRSS Lite plugin. Seems when he clicked on the eBay items in his posts, instead of going to the auction on eBay he was getting a “page not found” error.
If this is happening to you…Don’t worry, you didn’t do anything wrong!
I haven’t had this issue myself but others have and it seems to have something to do with the bidnow.php file on some servers due to the security settings of your host machine. bidnow.php cloaks/redirects the ebay rover link.
If you’re using the full version of BayRSS v 2.5, you can go into the plugin settings and turn “using bidnow.php” to off.
If you’re using the free version, you’ll need to contact your hosting support and tell them to change the mod security because it is blocking a php script you need for your wp plugin.
If your eBay affiliate blogs are on Hostgator, contact support and have them change mod security rule 340162. I’m not sure which rule it is for other hosts.
Azlan, the developer of BayRSS said back in Oct he was working on an update, but here it is late Dec and no update. I’m kinda disappointed that he hasn’t maintained this plugin better. The support forum for BayRSS is here http://bayrss2.com/forum/index.php

I ran across this other free wp ebay plugin this week, but I haven’t had the chance to test it yet. You can check it out if you like, you’ll have to give up your email addy to get it tho’ but I downloaded it a couple of days ago and have not been hammered with emails from them. You can also use the phpBay Lite plugin which is similar to BayRSS Lite. You can download it from here http://www.phpbay.com/products.html, it’s at the bottom of the page.
